Ivan Lin Pr.Eng.- Principal Engineer

Ivan Lin has been practising as an Audio Visual and Acoustic consulting engineer in South Africa since 1992.

Since graduating from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Witwatersrand, he has been a director of International Television Services (ITV), Pro Acoustic Devices, Pro Acoustic Consortium and Pro Acoustic Consulting Engineers (PACE).

In March 2015, PACE underwent a restructuring process. Ivan Lin now heads up a new company LINSPACE, consulting in the field of Architectural Acoustics, Audio-Visual and SPACE ENABLING.

He was the lead consultant for South African Parliament Chamber Electronic Refurbishment Project and National Inter-legislature Video-conferencing Network Project. He has also served as an Acoustics and AV strategy consultant to United Nation Offices Nairobi, Tanzanian Parliament, various provincial legislatures including Mpumalanga, Kwa Zulu Natal and Free State amongst others, and various government entities such as DFA, DOE, DST, SARB, DBSA. He has also consulted to numerous private corporate entities including Nedbank, ABSA, FNB, Standard Bank, Discovery, JSE, Anglo American, Standard Charter Bank, MTN, and Vodacom.

Ivan Lin has been assisting Green Building Council SA with the drafting of acoustic credits for Green Star Office Tool V1, Interior Tool Pilot and Performance Tool Pilot.

Being an active advocate for the User Experience Driven Design (UEDD) concept, Ivan is assisting various large commercial institutions in developing a “Facility Acoustic Performance Manual” to define measurable facility environmental performance targets based on expected user-experience definitions.

Based on the UEDD approach, Ivan Lin developed the first interactive SA National Parliament Chamber Delegate System in 2003. This is the first interactive touch screen system with instant access to multi-language interpretation and information retrieval. The chamber audio system was also designed to have the capacity for visual and audio image position correlation. The UEDD principle has been applied in many other design projects.

Ivan Lin conceived the Intelligent Adaptive Multi-zone Sound Masking (IAMSM) concept in 2003. To date, The IAMSM systems can be found deployed across most major banking institutions and financial services companies.

Ivan Lin has started a Space Enabling Forum advocating the importance of “last mile experience delivery” and the concept of UEDD.
